The Shamrock, the unofficial symbol of Ireland, is a three-leaved young white clover and was originally known for its medicinal properties. Some say it was used by Saint Patrick to illustrate the doctrine of the Trinity. The word Shamrock comes from the Irish 'seamrog' meaning young clover.
