Scotweb’s MD, Dr Nicholas J Fiddes, has written a free illustrated e-book, as a gift to help kilt lovers everywhere. In simple non-technical language it covers every aspect of buying a kilt, choosing your tartan, and accessorising an outfit for every occasion.
As a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority, and founder of the world’s first company to market kilts on the Internet (yes, Scotweb) no one is better qualified to offer such advice. Impartial and objective, this is a personal work and is not a Scotweb publication.
I have to admit it: This jacket is almost superior to the kilt (aka cilt)! I jest; the jacket is of the same excellent quality as the 8-yard heavyweight kilt. This Argyll has been perfectly tailored from barathea wool. This is not a smooth type of wool (like, say, an Italian suit), but somewhere between silk and heavy tweed. Its appearance is manlier than that of the former, more graceful than the latter. The coat hangs perfectly, and the sleeves are cut at a precise, natural arm-swinging angle. To me, one nice touch is that there are no gaudy labels sewn all over the jacket’s interior. The tartan flashes and gold buttons add to the item’s sophistication. Photos do not do this jacket justice, but I will try to upload one in the near future.
